Daydreaming

Today it’s cold and icy. Still.
My “to go” mug did not keep my coffee hot.
Work was rough.
And it’s Monday. Blah.

BUT

My kids woke up unusually happy.
They dressed themselves without one whine.
They did not even fight on the way to preschool.
Fresh salsa and tortillas for lunch.
And the sun is shining.

SO

I will claim today as a success.
Another X on the calendar.
One day closer to Spring baby.
Thoughts of Spring lead me to day dreams about being outside.
Riding a bike.
This one.
You like?
Here's to one day closer to warm sunny fun.

Whirlwind Weekend

Me and my sister took a quick trip to Wisconsin this past weekend.
My great-grandmother passed from this life at the age of 97.
She lived a good life. She is in a much better place now.
We had a wonderful Friday night fish fry with old friends and family.
It brought back memories.
The funeral was in my grandma's old church.
Everything was just as I remembered it.
Nothing much had changed.

We relished in the memories.
We celebrated together.
We laughed together
We caught up.
We ate. Cheese curds.
We shopped.

Did I mention we had no kids? It was refreshing.

Until at dinner Saturday evening the phone call came.
Pre-recorded from United.
Your flight # ??? has been canceled.
Please press 0 to speak with a booking agent.
Of course 0 did not work.
Come to find out all airlines pre-canceled every single flight out of the state of Wisconsin due to a incoming blizzard.

We drove. And drove. And drove.

Our trip home was long. And at times scary.
We drove until dark. And then we were finally home.
Tired and a bit cranky. But happy all the same.
And ready for winter to be over with once and for all.
Until next year at least. One can only hope.

Love Bug Boxes

I love to give gifts. I love to say thank you.
A small token of appreciation goes a long way.
My kids have seven teachers between the two of them.
Yes you read that right. Seven
So I'm always trying to think of something I can do for each of them without going broke.

I found these adorable little "love bug" boxes while skimming the aisles of Big Lots.
Six of em' for a buck.
Can't beat that price no way no how.

Add some some fancy choc-o-lates.
(can you tell I watch Dora much...Bate Bate...oh never mind)
And you get a cute little thoughtful gift with a special treat inside.
Twelve adorable boxes and a bag of candy for a whopping total of $4.50.
We're using them for Valentine's gifts, but they can really be used anytime.

The Mutt Puppy

Paisley loves popcorn.
See that concentration in her eye.
She's watching me eat popcorn.
And she wants some.
Really bad.

Pleaaaase can I have some?

Wait for it....wait for it...wait for it...

Forget about it. Going in for the steal.

No worries to all of you "grossed out by dog slobber" people.
Her tongue never left her flappy jaws.
No worries to all of you "don't let your dog eat people food" people.
Dropped pieces don't count, do they?
No worries to all of you "letting your dog beg makes a bad dog" people.
She's already a bad dog.

Ok maybe you should be worried.
Anybody want a bad dog that begs for popcorn?
No, I didn't think so.
I guess we'll keep her around.

Winter Get-Away

Nine of us packed our bags and flew south to escape the snowy midwest winter for a couple of days.
Our weekend getaway included a basketball game, lovely shops, beautiful weather, and amazing food.
We made it home in the nick of time because the airport was closed yesterday.
I think I now have the energy to make it to spring. Just maybe.

Faces

I'm back from a little weekend rejuvenation of sunshine, great food, and lots of laughter.
And now we are hunkered down being buried by snow.
Work is closed. Daycare is closed.
The city is shut down.
In all my years, I've never seen nothin' like it. Never ever.

Watching daytime television reruns while the kids are napping. And editing photos.
Came across these from the other day.
Put a camera in the face of a two year old and this is what you get. Silly boy.
